Engineered hardwood is one of the more forgiving flooring materials to maintain — but the wrong products or habits can cause lasting damage. The good news: a simple, consistent routine is all it takes.
Sweep or vacuum regularly to remove grit and fine particles that act as abrasive on the finish. Use a soft-bristle broom or a vacuum set to hard floor mode — never use a beater bar, which can scratch the surface.
When mopping, always use a damp — not wet — mop. Standing water is the enemy of timber floors. Excess moisture can seep into the joints, causing swelling, cupping, and long-term structural damage.
Use a pH-neutral hardwood floor cleaner diluted in water. Avoid vinegar, ammonia, or general-purpose cleaners — these strip the UV oil finish over time and leave the timber exposed.
Act fast. Wipe up spills immediately with a dry or slightly damp cloth. For sticky residues, a small amount of hardwood floor cleaner on a cloth will do the job — never spray directly onto the floor.
Use felt pads under all furniture legs — and replace them regularly as they collect grit. Place mats at all entry points to capture dirt and moisture before it reaches your floor. In high-traffic areas, consider a quality rug to reduce wear.
UV oil-finished floors can be refreshed with a maintenance oil every 12–18 months to restore depth and protection. Lacquered floors typically need less frequent attention but benefit from an annual clean and inspection.
"A well-maintained engineered hardwood floor can last a lifetime. The investment in care is minimal compared to the value it preserves."
