How to Clean and Maintain Luxury Vinyl Plank Flooring

Why LVP is So Easy to Maintain

One of the biggest advantages of Luxury Vinyl Plank flooring is its low-maintenance nature. The wear layer provides a durable, sealed surface that resists staining, scratching, and moisture — making it forgiving for busy households, families with children, and pet owners.

That said, the right habits will keep your LVP looking sharper for longer.

‍

Daily and Weekly Cleaning

Sweep or vacuum regularly using a soft-bristle attachment. Despite LVP's durability, fine grit tracked in from outside acts as a mild abrasive over time — removing it regularly protects the wear layer.

For weekly mopping, use a damp mop with warm water and a small amount of LVP-safe floor cleaner. Unlike timber, LVP handles moisture well — but avoid flooding the floor or leaving standing water near edges and joins.

‍

Products to Avoid

Steer clear of abrasive scrubbing pads, steam mops, wax-based cleaners, and solvent-based products. Steam mops in particular can force moisture into seams and, over time, compromise the adhesive bond of glue-down installations.

Vinegar-based cleaners, while popular for natural surfaces, can dull the finish of LVP over repeated use.

‍

Protecting Against Scratches and Indentation

While LVP is scratch-resistant, it is not scratch-proof. Use felt pads under furniture and avoid dragging heavy items across the floor. High-heeled shoes and uncapped furniture legs are the most common causes of surface damage.

‍

Long-Term Performance

Unlike timber, LVP cannot be sanded or refinished. However, with a quality wear layer and proper care, a good LVP floor will retain its appearance for 15–25 years under normal residential use.

"The best care routine is the simplest one — sweep often, mop damp, and protect against abrasion. Your floor will do the rest."
